Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is bragging up a storm on Twitter lately about big-money bets he's won on college and NBA basketball games. That cash could come in handy because the IRS just hit him with a new $3.4 million tax bill.
The feds claim "Money" Mayweather owes income taxes from 2009. That's the year the Grand Rapids native came out of retirement to fight Juan Manuel Márquez -- and reportedly pocket $25 million.
The bill is the latest in a Mayweather's long history with the IRS. Almost three years ago, we broke the storyabout the IRS filing a $6,165,735 lien against him for unpaid income taxes. Mayweather, 34, later negotiated a payment plan.
What's owed:
- The IRS filed a $3,359,279 lien against Mayweather on Jan. 21 with the Clark County (Nev.) Recorder. He owes income taxes from 2009, according to the recorder's office.
